Grant, O Lord, that, while we here lament the departure of Thy servant, we may ever remember that we are most certainly to follow him. Give us grace to prepare for that last hour, by a good life, that we may not be surprised by a sudden death, but be ever watching when Thou shalt call, that so with James we may enter into eternal glory: Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Let us pray. To you, O God, the dead do not die, in death our life is changed, not ended. Hear our prayers and command the souls of our servants to dwell with Abraham and Sarah, your friends, and be raised at last on the great day of judgment. In your mercy cleanse them of any sin which they may have committed through human frailty. We ask this through Christ, our Risen Lord. Amen.

I never had the privilege of meeting James. But I count him as a wonderful friend ! I am a 76 year old retired Televison personality - from the LA / Orange County areas. James case is yet another OUTRAGE - that points to the sheer BRUTAL - MURDEROUS - LEGALISTIC LUNACY - that passes for TEXAS JUSTICE ! I shall always remember James Allridge as the wonderful - warm hearted - young man - I have come to love and respect. My prayers are with his Parents and family.

James is still dead, and my heart’s still broken. Coming here several times a week to post things makes me feel worse, not better. The only consolation I have for any of us is, to paraphrase a line from a movie, “A broken heart goes on beating.” Like you, some days I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It is not a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled. But it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, But it is a disaster to no ideal to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars. But it is a disgrace not to have stars to reach for. Not failure, but low aim is a sin. Dr Benjamin Elijah Mays 1894-1984

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of; wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air; Up, up the long delirious burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace, Where never lark nor even eagle flew; And while, with silent lifting mind I've trod The high, untrespassed sanctity of space Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Into your hands, O Lord we humbly entrust our brother James. In this life you embraced him with your tender love; deliver him now from every evil and bid him enter eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome him then into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping nor pain, but the fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you; whatever we were to each other, that, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used, put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we shared together. Let my name ever be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.

"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says "There, she is gone." "Gone where?" "Gone from my sight. That is all." She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone says "There, she is gone" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout - "Here she comes!" by Henry Van Dyke

TIME does not bring relief; you all have lied Who told me time would ease me of my pain! I miss him in the weeping of the rain; I want him at the shrinking of the tide; The old snows melt from every mountain-side, And last year’s leaves are smoke in every lane; But last year’s bitter loving must remain Heaped on my heart, and my old thoughts abide! There are a hundred places where I fear To go,—so with his memory they brim! And entering with relief some quiet place Where never fell his foot or shone his face I say, “There is no memory of him here!” And so stand stricken, so remembering him!

Lord, those who die still live in your presence, their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for my family, relatives and friends, and for all the dead known to You alone. In company with Christ, Who died and now lives, may they rejoice in Your kingdom, where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us again in one family, to sing Your praise forever and ever. Amen.

Loneliness and despair
Leaving me tired

Gone forever
Eternally silenced
Remembered by each of us
Memories so very sweet
All we have left
Never forgotten
Sadly gone

Angels in heaven
Regard you highly
Encouraging your art

Now we gather our courage
Always remembering
Zoetrope of your life
Invigorating our imaginations!

Love like a blanket
Over each of us
Violence smothered

You tried to tell us
Understanding did not come easy
My soul has been damaged
My happiness is gone
You tried to tell us all

And no one listened
Sadly no one listened
Sadly no one listened

For each of us
Understanding has a price
Don't ever forget
Go not gently into that night
Eternally

Let us pray with confidence to God, who gives life to all things, that he will raise up this mortal body to the perfection and the company of the saints. How love can overcome all.
300 dollars the price of your death.
41 years is not enough time.
Remembered forever, by all of us.

May your days be countless and beautiful.
Yearning for nothing.

Maybe someday we will all see the madness.
Abolish it once and for all.
Death penalty a scar on the face of the West.

So now that you have ascended above us.
Keep us in your heart, and your love.
1 of us so brave. So brave.
Let us learn from each other, and our mistakes.
Love washing over us now.

Thinking of others as ourselves

Where there is hatred let us sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is discord, union; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. Out of darknes and into the light
Where are the songs that we used to sing?
Now I can hear the soft words you spoke
Ever the believer, ever the saint
Do not look away, I understand

Begin again, here and now
You have the choice, it is yours to make

Paths appear before us as we walk
How can we accept light if we deny truth?
Every day we have a choice to make
All of this weight, I cannot bear
Return to me on the wings of the morning

All of this I cannot bear
Now the darkness has shaded your face
Dancing with pain and fear

Deny this darkness, embrace the light
Open your arms to this Love
Come to me now, in peace and safety

God of Compassion You let your rain fall on the just and the unjust. Expand and deepen our hearts so that we may love as You love, even those among us who have caused the greatest pain by taking life. For there is in our land a great cry for vengeance as we fill up death row and kill the killers in the name of justice, in the name of peace. Jesus, our brother, you suffered execution at the hands of the state but you did not let hatred overcome you Help us to reach out to victims of violence so that our enduring love may help them heal. Holy Spirit of God, You strengthen us in the struggle for justice, Help us to work tirelessly for the abolition of state-sanctioned death and to renew our society in its very heart so that violence will be no more. Time to speak
Preach of good thing
Listen not to evil

All our lives - it has meaning.
Though it's not always obvious,
Many people are watching.
You have to live each day,
As if the whole world sees what you do.
So why don't more people realize this?
So why do we continue to kill people for 'justice'?

Leap from the boughs
Always with a spring in your step
Despite a heavy heart

You are not alone
Only the trees can whisper your name this way
Underneath the light of the Autumn moon

Remembering your sighs
Every moment etched in my mind

Difficult to think now that you're gone
Every thing is different
Anything I can think to say is drowned
Drowned in my regret

Making us pause to think
Every one of us would stop
Stop and think about our actions

Before your art I was afraid

Wondering if you knew the gift you gave
Selflessly

Greater love is not known
Other voices crowd around
Another day another life
Time will spin out again
Some day we will all be free

Unto the arms of death
So that he may carry you
At last to your eternal rest
Not for me do they cry

So often do I think on thee
Always with a smile
Rarely do I forget
As in times past I from time to time would
Now I hold my hand out
Down I tilt my head
Onward I must walk without the wind
Never again will I hear you speak
'twas but a whisper against the backdrop
Sometimes I listen too hard

Always will I stand
Never again will I falter
Understanding is what you brought me

To the Allridge family, May God bless each and everyone of you. I believe with all my hearth that James and his brother are in Heaven. I had a sister who was murdered...your son should NOT have died! I pray our legal system changes...it's wrong! I am a native Texan and can't help but feel ashamed by our criminal system. There's NOT a doubt in my mind that James is dancing with Jesus right now and knowing my sister, I bet she's joining in!! :) The ones who my heart goes truly out and that is the victim's family...I thought they were Christians????? Guess not. I pray they dod NOT receive the Mercy that the State of Texas holds...which is NONE. Your son's artwork was truly a gift from God. You should be VERY proud of him. If there is EVER anything that I can do...run errands, fix dinner, etc...please let me know. I pray only God's very best comes your way. May God bless you with Love, Happiness, Healing, Love. With kindest regards, Linda Carlton

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid, you see I took his hand when I heard his call; I turned my back an left it all. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joys- A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss... Oh, yes, these things I, too, will miss Be no burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don't lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now. He set me free. My heart goes out to James and his family.

May your soul be free

Under the watchful eye of God

Roaming free and at peace

Deep in the blue skies of heaven

Every day surrounded by love

Rising and falling on the currents

Every day surrounded by love

Rising and falling on the currents of His Love

Congratulations! Once again you americans managed to make a complete fool of yourselves. First, for still having this stone-age death penalty like every other stone-age country, and second, for confirming your complete lack of intelligence, saying things in this forum that only a retarded child would say. - Nothin has changed i guess - I'm out!

I am a student of one of james' and his big brothers' teachers,Mrs. Rue. And today we came into class and she told use that she was going to tell use the story of oher former student whom is on death row. Now I was about to do like my other 17 classmates and take that good old nap before lunch but something told me to listen. SO she told use and even though some of the students in my class were like "whatever they deserve what they get" I really couldn't agree with them.My heart is heavy because when she told us it felt like god made her tell me for a reason, but then she told us that he has untill 12:01 tonight i feel like i could have done something.honestly I know my little 17 year old opinon would not have made a big difference, but I just feel I could have done anything to help. But for James, I know you will probly never get to read this but i have to say it, My heart goes out to you and if they don't give you your appeal make sure you have you relationship with god where it needs

Most capital crimes are committed in the heat of the moment. Most capital crimes are committed during moments of great emotional stress or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, when logical thinking has been suspended. In such cases, violence is inflicted by persons heedless of the consequences to themselves as well as to others.... If, however, severe punishment can deter crime, then long-term imprisonment is severe enough to deter any rational person from committing a violent crime. The vast preponderance of the evidence shows that the death penalty is no more effective than imprisonment in deterring murder and that it may even be an incitement to criminal violence. Death-penalty states as a group do not have lower rates of criminal homicide than non-deathpenalty states....

I don't give a shit about James, and i really fell sad about the fact that he has murdered someone - It's the fucking principle of excecuting other people that makes me sick. Someday, if not allready, we will excecute an innocent person. You cannot ague against that! Mistakes happens in the legal system... We have seen it many times. Why don't we just let him rot in jail for the rest of his life? He will not be able to hurt anyone ever again!

Hello Phear - I'm from Schwitzerland. In our country we deal with murderes very well. We simply put them away for life, so they cannot do any harm agin, EVER! And at the same time we do not have to kill people...Very convenient, especially if they turn out to be innocent, later on. But the again, who cares if a few persons are excecuted by mistake, it is only 1 out of 7 on deathrow who turns out to be innocent, annyway. You don't get do you? This is so freaking sad that i could puke! Mmmmmm! i love to puke, so here it comes: "Wuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaa!" - WORD the fuck UP, Shit-heads!

I guess the true sentiment would be to say, that if I had the choice of spending eternity with James, rehabilitated criminal, or you all that have posted your malicious comments on this site, I would opt for a heaven-load of Jame's and people like him, that have fallen into mistakes and temptation and risen above, not JUDGEMENTAL IGNORANT FOOLS LIKE YOURSELF. My heart goes out to Jame's victim and the victim's family, to Jame's family and friends, and to all of us that strive for peace, justice, and redemption in this world. I would love to look into each of your lives and shine a light on all the skeletons in each of your closets, they would probably gleam and brightly as Jame's, probably some even brighter.... We are all deserving of forgiveness, especially those that are lost as children/young adults, and no matter what happens today, I know that James will either live with God's forgiveness or experience it in the hereafter, it is the rest of you that I am worried about!!!

Those who believe that deterrence justifies the execution of certain offenders bear the burden of proving that the death penalty is a deterrent. The overwhelming conclusion from years of deterrence studies is that the death penalty is, at best, no more of a deterrent than a sentence of life in prison. The Ehrlich studies have been widely discredited. In fact, some criminologists, maintain that the death penalty has the opposite effect: that is, society is brutalized by the use of the death penalty, and this increases the likelihood of more murder. Even most supporters of the death penalty now place little or no weight on deterrence as a serious justification for its continued use. States in the United States that do not employ the death penalty generally have lower murder rates than states that do. The same is true when the U.S. is compared to countries similar to it. The U.S., with the death penalty, has a higher murder rate than the countries of Europe or Canada, which do not use

The death penalty alone imposes an irrevocable sentence. Once an inmate is executed, nothing can be done to make amends if a mistake has been made. There is considerable evidence that many mistakes have been made in sentencing people to death. Since 1973, at least 88 people have been released from death row after evidence of their innocence emerged. During the same period of time, over 650 people have been executed. Thus, for every seven people executed, we have found one person on death row who never should have been convicted. These statistics represent an intolerable risk of executing the innocent. Don't you get it? - we end up being the murderes our self!

As a Houston resident, I'm appalled that Texas leads this nation in the number of executions. Previous entries have made note of the moral discrepency. At a protest, someone once yelled at me, "Murders get murdered." That terminology is very telling. If murders get murdered, then what does that make our government? Murders. "An eye for an eye leaves the world blind." Yes, America is a laughingstock on the international stage because of the "strong moral" stance we TRY to take on the world scene while allowing torture, hate and murder to go on at home and participating in it abroad.

I dont get it. The amaricans preaching about stupid sayings like "an eye for an eye". The notion of an eye for an eye, or a life for a life, is a simplistic one which the western society has never endorsed. We do not allow torturing the torturer, or raping the rapist. Taking the life of a murderer is a similarly disproportionate punishment, especially in light of the fact that the U.S. executes only a small percentage of those convicted of murder, and these defendants are typically not the worst offenders but merely the ones with the fewest resources to defend themselves. WAKE THE FUCK UP RETARDS!!!!! THE REST OF THE WORLD IS LAUGHING BEHIND YOUR BACK, DONT YOU GET IT?

Retribution is another word for revenge. Although our first instinct may be to inflict immediate pain on someone who wrongs us, the standards of a mature society demand a more measured response. The emotional impulse for revenge is not a sufficient justification for invoking a system of capital punishment, with all its accompanying problems and risks. Our laws and criminal justice system should lead us to higher principles that demonstrate a complete respect for life, even the life of a murderer. Encouraging our basest motives of revenge, which ends in another killing, extends the chain of violence. Allowing executions sanctions killing as a form of 'pay-back.'

No one is in anyway defending what James has done. He should be put away the rest of his life, no doubt. The thing I don't understand is how the amaricans can say that it's okay to take another persons life. Some one will actually have to kill James, pushing a button or injecting the poison. This primitive form of "refence" is only seen in contries like Afganistan, China and Irak. Put him away for life and he will never be able to harm anyone again. Everything else is not ponishment but ugly revence telling that the amaricans are no better than the murdere himself.
