THE OTHER VICTIM'S ADVOCACY
Tina Church of The Other Victim's Advocacy and Paul Colella

The Other Victim's Advocacy belongs to no one NOT THE STATE OR DEFENSE ATTORNEYS, it belongs to the accused and their families.  Pre-trial it's so important to monitor the case and make sure that a Death Qualified attorney is appointed and to act as a liason between attorney, client, attorney, family and so on.  In so many cases there is a break-down in communication and there is no one there to mend the bridge.  The Other Victim's Advocacy acts as a "watch dog" to make sure that everything that can be done is in fact being done.

Post-conviction Death cases need extreme monitoring.  For those of us working in Texas we are aware of the LIST handed down by the CCA which has maybe 100 or so attorneys on it, and unfortunately, we do not see the best on the list. Maybe two or three would be considered "good".  The State Habeas process is the most important step for relief in the system, and this is where the help is needed.  In so many cases we see no investigation, no mitigation, and a fast track to the gurney.  There is a window of opportunity for the Other Victim's Advocacy to jump in and try to see adequate counsel before it becomes in so many cases "too late"

For 10 years or better I have diligently worked strictly on a pro bono bases in the State of Texas.  The McGinn case which then Govenor Bush granted the first Repieve ever would have cost the McGinn family in excess of $45,000.00 in American dollars.  As we all know indigent clients are all on death row.

We don't see men and women on death row with the means to handle a death case.  I can't begin to even add up all of the $$$$ that I have spent out of my own pocket in trying to help these men.  And in many cases I have been successful.

My target areas in Texas are Dallas Co., Tarrant Co., Harris Co. and Bexar Co.  I have people lined up that are more than qualified for the positions, and many volunteers.  I am in the  process of applying for grant money, but it could take months to a year, and I would like to see this project up and running.  I am totally committed to this project and I know how useful it
is, because I have done it for years, but my personal funds are running out, therefore if people would like to donate any funds they can send it to.
