Tragic waste of a good mans life.Wake up America, this is barbaric!

I never had the privilege of meeting James. But I count him as a wonderful friend ! I am a 76 year old retired Televison personality - from the LA / Orange County areas. James case is yet another OUTRAGE - that points to the sheer BRUTAL - MURDEROUS - LEGALISTIC LUNACY - that passes for TEXAS JUSTICE ! I shall always remember James Allridge as the wonderful - warm hearted - young man - I have come to love and respect. My prayers are with his Parents and family.

James is still dead, and my heart’s still broken. Coming here several times a week to post things makes me feel worse, not better. The only consolation I have for any of us is, to paraphrase a line from a movie, “A broken heart goes on beating.” Like you, some days I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It is not a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled. But it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, But it is a disaster to no ideal to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars. I have corresponded with James for 1 1/2 yrs. and consider him one of the dearest friends I have ever known. He was a role model for others on death row and he always had a kind word and bit of encouragement for all around him. My love and thoughts are with James' family--thank you for sharing James with us.

You don't know me and never will and I am not even from your country, but I have followed the case a little and I am an avid believer in abolishing the death penalty. It seems to me James had become a good person who certainly had sometihng to offer society, even from a prison cell. My heart goes out to you all, particulary the family. I saw James work after he passed away and wah impressed by the light I saw. It was wrong to kill him. It's wrong to kill anybody. I hope his heart was at peace, and that he has found peace now.

To the Allridge family, May God bless each and everyone of you. I believe with all my hearth that James and his brother are in Heaven. I had a sister who was murdered...your son should NOT have died! I pray our legal system changes...it's wrong! I am a native Texan and can't help but feel ashamed by our criminal system. There's NOT a doubt in my mind that James is dancing with Jesus right now and knowing my sister, I bet she's joining in!! :) The ones who my heart goes truly out and that is the victim's family...I thought they were Christians????? First, for still having this stone-age death penalty like every other stone-age country, and second, for confirming your complete lack of intelligence, saying things in this forum that only a retarded child would say. - Nothin has changed i guess - I'm out!

I am a student of one of james' and his big brothers' teachers,Mrs. Rue. And today we came into class and she told use that she was going to tell use the story of oher former student whom is on death row. Now I was about to do like my other 17 classmates and take that good old nap before lunch but something told me to listen. SO she told use and even though some of the students in my class were like "whatever they deserve what they get" I really couldn't agree with them.My heart is heavy because when she told us it felt like god made her tell me for a reason,but then she told us that he has untill 12:01 tonight i feel like i could have done something.honestly I know my little 17 year old opinon would not have made a big difference,but I just feel I could have done anything to help. But for James, I know you will probly never get to read this but i have to say it, My heart goes out to you and if they don't give you your appeal make sure you have you relationship with god where it needs

Death-penalty states as a group do not have lower rates of criminal homicide than non-deathpenalty states....

Capital convictions are not easily prosecuted in the US. Do some research. The barn door on executing innocent people opened in Europe several hundred years ago.....

Hello Phear - I'm from Schwitzerland. In our country we deal with murderes very well. We simply put them away for life, so they cannot do any harm agin, EVER! And at the same time we do not have to kill people...Very convenient, especially if they turn out to be innocent, later on. But the again, who cares if a few persons are excecuted by mistake, it is only 1 out of 7 on deathrow who turns out to be innocent, annyway. You don't get do you? I'm not so much a "James supporter" as a human suporter. Yes James did a very bad thing, but killing him will not bring back Brian. The world will not be a better place if he is killed, not to his family, not even to Brian's family, And certanly not to you!!

I have never seen such a group of fools in my life. It is all of you people that have posted on this site that make the good people of the United States look IGNORANT... My heart goes out to Jame's victim and the victim's family, to Jame's family and friends, and to all of us that strive for peace, justice, and redemption in this world. I would love to look into each of your lives and shine a light on all the skeletons in each of your closets, they would probably gleam and brightly as Jame's, probably some even brighter.... I am disgusted by the continuing executions of persons, proven guiltly or assumed guilty, in the USA. One day in the future we will ALL KNOW how wrong this is and, as in so many cases of blindness and bigotry, we will look back on those who knew no justice and no mercy and feel great sorrow for their victims.

I am a state employee who started from very humble beginnings. I grew up in EPT and have been fortunate to escape all the things that surrounded me in my youth- drugs, gangs, trouble, temptation. I have friends in prison, friends who are formerly convicted criminals and friends who still haven't found their way out. While I look down on violence and other such criminal behavior, I am aware of the inequities in our system and strongly oppose the death penalty.

I beleive like George W. and the KJV of Bible, but in this particular situation of Brother and all, This is what I recomend to all the Prison officials and that is to allow Mr. Allridge to live out a sentence with no parole and sign papers that would not permit him to change his mind later to the death penalty when he got seriously ill from aids, cancer or anything, and to me this would be equal and more than a death penalty in this case but do not allow Parole later. Though I am not real religios, I think its up to god to dish out proper punishment, not people. I recently learned about Mr. Allridge's situation quite by accident. Since then, my sleep has been disturbed by nightmares about his upcoming execution. Two things which really bother me are 1) how many of you bring up the $300 issue and 2) Texas's commutation of Henry Lucas's death sentence. Personally, I would never get a good night's rest if I commuted Lucas's sentece and executed Allridge. As for the $300, your attitude makes me think you feel the crime would be less significant if Mr. Allridge robbed a bank rather than a convenience store. My prayers are with James and his loved ones, and of course with the loved ones of the deceased. To use an old expression: Two wrongs don't make a right.

One of my favorite all time movies is, Shawshank Redemption. The movie beautifully portrays how corrupt and decayed the system is. Yet, I find the movie oddly inspiring, as it shows such hope and beauty within the inmates that are confined. The movie brings hope - in humanity itself. But keep in mind, James, if you do walk the final walk - and your heart is right with God, then the place you are going to will NOT be about confinement anymore. You will be as free as a dove. Nothing on this earth can be compared. You will be given a new body, a new name, you will neither be black or white, and your sins on earth will be FORGOTTEN! The lion will lay with the lamb and Jesus says he will wipe all tears from our eyes.

James, you appear to be a talented individual with great potential - I truly believe that there are "SOME" inmates that CAN be rehabilitated. As a person who's ALWAYS stood firmly in SUPPORT of the death penalty, I sometimes bump into other stories of inmates (like yourself) and find myself RE THINKING my stand on the death penalty. I truly believe that YOU can be rehabilitated and that perhaps you ARE a productive member of society. But I also feel that NOT everyone CAN be rehabilitated, nor should they. I read your story with interest about the girl and the (tiger?) who had lost her hand - your reference to inmates being treated like "animals" thus, ACTING like animals made a lot of sense. But you do have to admit that SOME inmates acted like animals BEFORE they were incarcerated - namely, for example, TED BUNDY. This man acted with total DISREGARD to human life, he serially had taken- SAVAGELY- NUMEROUS innocent lives - this was not a "heat of the moment" act in passionate ang

I think the only reasonable alternative to the death penalty would be for the convicted to: 1) spend life in prison, no parole 2) upkeep of the vitim(s) gravesite at least once a month. 3) write an apology letter to every surviving immediate family member, including spouse, children, and grandchildren, on Christmas, on Thanksgiving, on Mothers/Fathers Day (whichever applies) and on the victim(s) birthday(s), apologizing for keeping their loved one(s) from enjoying those special times with their families. But the bottom line is, STOP TREATING THESE MURDERING SCUM LIKE 'VICTIMS!' I know many people who had crappy childhoods, who didn't get the bike they wanted (or whatever lame excuse these creeps give) and these people turned out JUST FINE. It all comes down to making a choice: Do I want to spend the rest of my life behind bars, or do I want to contribute to the betterment of mankind?

I met James for the first time last Friday while in Livingston visiting a few close friends. The first thing I noticed about him was his mannerisms. He is an extremely gentle, respectful man. Tall (almost giant compared to me) soft spoken and very polite. Secondly there is this glow about him, I do believe he has found God (we debated politely about this for awhile-smile) and from our visit I walked away knowing that I just encountered a blessing. I will never forget him. Never.

Hello James, I accidentally surfed to your page and liked a lot your pictures of (my favourite) flowers : lilies, dahlias and roses. What you speak of human dignity is interesting too. Personally I oppose death penalty and hope for the best (your process and release) in the future. My english may be bad, because i write from Europe.

What are you doing to combat death penalty?

You know you are in deep, deep trouble when you are on death row and the majority of comments on your "get out of jail free" web page are from people trying to sell stuff.

the death penalty is barbaric and has proven it'S USELESSNESS

I'm helping my 16-year old daughter collect research information for an essay paper she is writing. She is against the death penalty and is collecting data to support her premis. I can't think of a better argument supporting her premis than the tradgedy of James Allridge III, combined with national statistics on victims of the death penalty. I will sign James Allridge III petition.

You have proven yourself to be totally rehabilitated and, although I understand that you want your sentence to be changed to a life sentence, I think that after all these years, you have served your time, learnt a great deal from it and should be freed so that you can share your talent with the rest of the world as a free man. we are two girls that just would like to say that we feel bad to reed this, to know that there realy are people that are sitting in the death penalthy. we live in a litle island far away and canŽt imagine how itŽs like because here you would only stay in prison for some years for the same crimes that people die for there. we are totaly against it and belive that all people have the same rights no matter what they have done!!!

I visited James, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday we had a wonderful time! James is such a wonderful, intelligent, loving, kind and humorous man. We had so much fun during our visits I forgot for one moment we were in prison. I laughed so much my stomach hurt. I ask James what would be the first thing you do if you were free he stated "visit the Hair Club for Men".

Talented James and his friends are visionaries like Dostoyevsky. As a result of their death row hardships, they have recovered a "piece" which is on the whole missing in the American psyche. Humanity!!!If America regained that they wouldn't execute people nor would they have the crime problems, as they would have a more healthy caring society. Thanks for such an inspirational web site.

I am 26yrs old.I am engaged in the effect jail time has on a mentality and almost passionate about the effect death role has on a soul.I can say my pure boredum lead me to the photo essay by MSNBC and my curiosity for you and your brother lead me to this website.I was entriged by the photo in 1994 of the two brothers together on death row,yet the farthest apart any human could be.My heart and soul reaches to you, and your crusade for your life.

I was looking at your site and immediately wrote it off because i believe most do something that has them there. But with looking at everything i agree when we all repent our sins and bcome rehabilitated we deserve another chance in gods eyes who by the way is our only judge and jury. Even for the guilty death is not right and in james's case he is probably just another black american who received an unfair trial because of his colour in front of a [probably] all white racist jury. Have been writing to James for many years now, and visited him once at Ellis Unit in Huntsville. I am very impressed by his warmth and intelligence. It would be a terrible crime to execute him - he should be released back into society where he has much to contribute. His elder brother has already been executed for the same crime James is incarcerated for. Enough is enough, release James now.
